You have got to be able to see things from the point of view of someone who is a self realized rage-a holic.

People who rage very often say things that they do not mean, say things that they KNOW will hurt, as a learned means to force the person hurting them, to understand how they are making the rage-a-holic feel.

People like this lack communication skills, and the more stressful the trigger or situation, the less calm and reserved and rational they become.

It is common, it is symptomatic of a problem and it should be considered that even though he didn't have to, he apologized, NOT so much to the two men, but to the Black community as a whole.

Seinfeld may have had something to do with the prompting it and staging it because the Seinfeld DVD boxed set has just come out for Christmas circulation, but I really do believe that he meant it...

He has done it before with other stressfull situations, said and done things to others that he also regretted afterward. He needs help, not lynching!

Imagine the compassion of a black therapist coming forward to offer their services to teach him how to deal and give him an education on the social effects of slavery... THAT is the RIGHT thing to do... But most black people... have publically threatened his life. Supposedly even Jamie Fox? Who although he is just as famous (not much at all) Foxx get's away with a public statement of that nature which is just as wrong as what Richards did. If not worse!

Go figure...

Well, it's definitely something he had to do. If he wouldn't have apologized, he would forever be known as a racist and everyone would boycott anything he did.

As for his sincerity, I think he just feels bad he lost it and went crazy on stage. I don't think he regrets using those words as much as he does knowing that tape got out to the public.

My personal opinion is that he had to do something for damage control. He blew up and made unfortunate remarks. One thing you have to remember is that with people like comics, is that they have no personal history with people in the audience. They have to go on appearance alone. This is all they have to work with to try to attack a heckler. He picked the easiest subject that would hurt the most. I dont agree with what he did, and I hope his career is ended by it, but i think i understand why he picked race as the thing he attacked. It was the easiest target.

That was a very rude comment he made but he has said sorry so much, it might be so he will get out of trouble or it could be since he really means it....
I really think though he is doing it so he will get out of the news as a racist but he just proved it to the world he is racist....
