If you have a local shop called JESSOPS,ask there, I was quoted £4 per 100feet of film two years ago. to have your film put onto dvd would be more than double. You can of course buy the equipment to to it your self. But ask at your camera shop
I took the cheap road to doing it myself,by projecting the old film onto the screen and capturing on camcorder to covert in the computer but the result wasn't very good as I have captured the flickering lines across the screen rather spoiling the result. I hope you have better results good luck I'm sure your mum will be delighted.
PS i still have by 8mm camera and projector still working if any one out there is interested

The lighting fixtures is undesirable for digital digicam use and also you may't get a good away line of website onto the reveal without being in preserving with the projector. The slower body expenditures are very confusing to seize. you may't play movie on the movie digicam, they absolutely take photographic body pictures, and do not deliver something. There are not any outputs. you want a movie to video converter. this can be a movie participant with a small reader like a customary computing gadget scanner. This reads the precise length of the projected image and convert the body expenditures electronically to in good structure accepted streaming video. his can then be despatched to the computing gadget in in spite of the indisputable fact that format the converter produces, and switched over with the help of the computing gadget to the mandatory format for accepted viewing
