No enough, and by a far margin. If only 1/10 of what is being spend on armament would be devoted to space, NASA would be swimming in money.
In 2005, NASA budget was $16.2 billion (see link #1) and compare that to the spending of US army in Iraq: $3.9 billion per month in 2003 ($1 billion per month in Afghanistan -- see second link) and that was in 2003! US military spending is over $400 billion per year, and that is to *not catch* Bin Laden.

in my opinion, they don't spend enough. sure, people can complain that things like schools and stuff need more money from the budget, but let's all be realistic. this planet is not going to be inhabitable forever, and if mankind is going to outlive it's mother, we need to explore other options in the universe. right now we can't even send a man to mars. and mars is the next closest thing past the moon, i think. (venus may be closer but is too hot to live) mars is too cold, but it's beleived that if we can somehow heat it up, the ice under the surface will melt making water and eventually an atmosphere. we may need to move to mars someday if earth gets too hot. the other planets in the solar system are thought to be uninhabitable, but the moons of the bigger planets could provide a nice habitat. there are moons of jupiter that are close in size to the earth. therefore, it has similar gravity to ours. all we need is air, water, and a rocket that can take us there. the latter requiring more money into the space program

No. Have you ever heard the saying, "Earth is the cradle of civilization"? It's true. Some day, we'll have to go beyond the 'cradle.' A baby has to leave the cradle and venture out into the world, so we need to leave Earth and venture out into space. And with more money for space exploration, we can avoid losing our moon and destroying our Earth before we're ready to leave it.

We don't spend enough. The exploration of space will give us the tools to one day divert a large asteroid that is headed for Earth. It is not if it will happen but when it will happen and if we don't have the ability to divert a large asteroid or comet then we are all dead.
