It's neither true or false in FOL if you make truth and falsity into a standard predicate.
Self-referential claims shouldn't be parsed in one object language.
Y is False
Y = (Y is False)
Therefore " this sentence is false" IS false.
But you have to set the semantics up correctly, otherwise it's indeterminate.
Bivalence fails.

Careful! You have to be precise with the liar paradox or it fails to be a paradox. Unfortunately a "liar" is someone who habitually lies rather than always lies - so "I am a liar" fails to be a paradox, he could be a habitual liar who is telling the truth for once in his dishonest life.
Having said that, this is an interesting re-formulation. It does depend on what he is saying he is lying about. If its "this statement is a lie" then you're just back to your standard liar paradox (look it up on wikipedia). If its another statement, say "I've just had sex with Kylie Minogue" and "I was lying then actually" then you are in a confusing situation. I suppose you'd have to decide on the basis of how likely the statement was - on the above I would believe him if he said he'd lied.

A liar is liar, so once he/she has lied he'd have to tell a hundred truths to have a chance for me to believe just one.

Jesus took a liar and a thief, so the answer is, only if it is the same liar, that Jesus took with him, and we are spirits in heaven. ha ha, where G-D is in charge.
