Yes their is a major problem with poverty in the US. One of many major reasons is Big corporations like Wal-Mart and Sams club not only givin minimum wages but no healthcare also. Instead taxpayers pay it. Our presidents supports big business and capitalism. Not to mention more jobs have been outsourced out of the country thanks to BUSH, leaving more and more people on the welfare and SS system. I'd rather spend 1 or 2 percent more on products and keep america working. That and everytime foreign products(cars, clothin, etc.) are bought by americans we are putting fellow americans on the street. People say american products cost too much, than i say move to that country and by their products.

What problem! How many people below the poverty line live at home with their parents? They are called high schoolers with entry level positions. In this country of ours you can get pell grants and student loans to help with your education costs. You can get an affordable education to improve your lot in life. Some choose not to do this. That is their problem. Decisions one makes in life fortell the outcome!

there's a correlation to education and poverty, there's a correlation to skin color and poverty, and there's a correlation to the social status you were born in and poverty.

poverty exists people we as a society find it acceptable for one person to makes billions upon billions of dollars while another make six dollars an hour working at walmart. obscene salaries and profit hurt all americans..... maybe not sure term but it will eventually lead to our country's demise!!!!!! the true religion of america is the dollar bill!!!!!!!

Poverty in America means you have a VCR instead of a DVD player. You wear Payless shoes instead of Nike. You might have to decide between heat or food, but you'll make it. I haven't seen any stats on the number of deaths caused by starvation.

Poverty in the U.S exist largely in part because of peoples choices and the fact they are lazy or have untreated mental illness also it factors in that our wage system does not match the cost of living also we are spending too much money on non citizens instead of taking care of our own.

Outsource all those middle class American jobs, and import illegal, cheap labor,.................. you haven't seen anything yet. These people calling poverty stricken people lazy today, will end up in soup lines in a couple years.

ignorance is bliss for many Americans on this subject. Its very real and very sad, we justify it by saying they are lazy and stupid and that makes us even worse.
