Depends on what happens in the interim. The world has a great propensity to forgive and forget in some instances.
Look at all the powers after WW2.
Or Korea after the Chinese killed many more US service men than the Iraqis ever will.
Emotions have to be subdued for a time, but after that we can all move forward. People realize that holding grudges doesn't accomplish anything.

For 20 years there was no communication between America and North Vietnam, Thats neither a sign of getting beat politically or militarily. Vietnam could have been a world class resort country, but all they are now is a bitter rice producer. After we leave Iraq they too will suffer the same world humiliation unless they cooperate against their people who fight against freedom.

You need to understand that war is nothing more than a struggle of land and power. What you've been fed is not true. No one is coming to kill you. It's all about control. Vietnam was a power struggle with China.

The obvious sarcasm aside, since the next stop for the insurgents would be to attack us on our soil, that scenario might be more real than you intended.
