how hard would it be to put full size chevy (1977) axles under a 1994 ford explorer?

it would be a major PITA and wouldn't even work without heavy modification. The rear axle is as simple as locating the spring perches in the proper location welding them to the tube and bolting it up but the FRONT is what's gonna drive you crazy. Ford uses a coil sprung TTB setup the Chevy is going to be leaf sprung, but this is the least of your worries. Fords have the differential located under the drivers side of the truck, Chevy's Under the Passenger side. To fix this you will either have to cut up the tubing on the chevy axle to relocate the diff to the drivers side and have custom shafts made, Or you will have to find a transfercase with the front driveshaft output on the passenger side that will boltup to the tranny and match the spline count on the transmission output shaft. GOOD LUCK!!! My suggestion to you is if you are dead set on having fullsize axles you go rob the axles from a fullsize Ford F100/150/Bronco Up to 1979. Preferably a 78/79 as these will have the reverse rotation (high pinion) D44 front axles. You will then only need to cut off and re-locate the radius arm locating tabs so the coil spring perches will lineup to the upper coil spring mounts already on your Xploder.

It,s simple just jack up the radiator cap and drive a Chevy under it.

You would need to weld all new hard points on to the '77 axle.

Not a bright idea, but it can be done.
