It was bought new almost 3 years ago. One of the things I liked about it was the on/off switch was on the handle of the hose so I didn't have to walk back to the cannister to turn it off. Now it is always on when I plug it in and can only turn it off by unplugging it. The switch part to turn on the beater bar still works though. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Take the switch apart and pay attention to how it goes together. More times than not it's just something loose. Alot of times we just put the same switch back together and it works. Of course, the people pay for a new switch. In this day and age everyone is out to get ya.

go to a small appliance part store and get a new switch

Sears repair will fix it.
