dell is advertising some of its laptops (dual core) for £399 - with £130 discount on normal price. Only thing is that it is available only on some days and open to the first 25 customers for the day (after 10 am) - they usually advertise on the london metro - get it early and check the dell page. The ads I can remember had 80gb hdd + xp home or media centre.

Also check out dell's "outlet" in their web page. They sell laptops that had already been built for other people but had not been bought by them for some reason or the other. These are new laptops and if you can find what you are looking for ( they have a very good search function) you can get a good deal

I would say ebay but u dont want to do that. I heard dell do cheap computers but also heard they arent as reliable. Also i dont think you will get a laptop with a decent harddrive for under 400 pounds. If you do get a cheap laptop but an external harddrive from ebay - thats the cheapest place for them. or the best thing would be to just save ur money and go buy a good quality one - it would last longer and would be more reliable. and would save you more money in the longrun. But for a cheap laptop i would still say ebay.

Without a more specific description of what you want, such as the size of hard drive you need, I would suggest you look in Micromart, if you can't see an advertiser selling what you need, then look to see if there is a computer fair near to where you live. If you look around for a secondhand machine you will get something that suits your needs and if it's not got built-in WiFi then no problem, a WiFi adapter is way less than 20 quid.

Pop an email off to my buddy at parts@bobjohnson.com and see if maybe Bob can get you headed in the right direction. Most of his stuff needs minor work, but for this price range you really can't go wrong. Two other alternatives are http://www.geeks.com and http://www.pricewatch.com hope this helps
