Tumble dry, but only use softner every other or every 3rd wash. If you use it every time your towels will be plenty soft, but won't absorb water because the softner coats the fibers.

Believe me... my mother in law uses softener everytime and I pretty much have to air-dry myself when we stay over! :-)

I know this will sound rather corny, but it does work. Hang your damp towels on the line when you know there will be a heavy frost, in the morning they will be stiff, but when they have thawned out and then dried, you will have really soft towels, this is good for those old ones that have gone hard.
Lots of people use softener on towels but you should'nt do it all the time as it stops the towel from doing it's job.

I agree with the advice to tumble dry and skip the fabric softener. If you must use a softener, use it only very rarely. I, too, have stayed with a relative who used fabric softener on her towels with every wash, and the towels more or less became water repellent.

You have to have good quality towels to start with.
Do not use too much fabric conditioner, only use the recommended amout even though it is tempting to put more in, but it actualyy makes them stiffer!! Put them in the tumble dryer with "bounce" tumble dryer sheets, and keep them in an airing cupboard.

Use a good quality fabric conditioner, and put them in the tumble dryer. Also try using tumble dryer sheets, such as Bounce,to help reduce the amount of static caused by drying them.

When they are bought new, wash them in cold water first before you use them. Then ever time you wash them in future keep the water temperature low no more than 40 degrees and then tumble dry them. Never but never use a fabric softener!

Fabric conditioner, then tumble and they will come out all lovely and soft for your bath. Just read your answers and the soda crystals I believe made everything hard. you have some good advice there. Good luck

When you wash your towels use a little baking soda in the wash it keeps them fresh and since they have had a abbrasive wash (dont worry it wont wear them out) there is no grit of grease to keep them from being the fluffiest ever

Finish them off in the tumble dryer.

Either add a brand name conditioning sheet, or Lakeland do a set of two bouncy balls with knobbles on that you throw in the dryer that do the work of a conditioner.
