It's because in US politics the two political parties are so reliant on the money coming from a small number of special interest groups and corporate lobbyists that they long ago stopped actually representing the majority of American voters. The result is that a few polarising issues such as abortion, gay rights and the death penalty are given undue prominence because other issues such as economic responsibilty are not discussed because the corporations who fund both parties don't want it discussed. It means that people are forced into becoming polarised.
What needs to happen is that the US public need to take back the political landscape. Impose strict controls on the amount anyone can give a political campaign, so that politicians aren't beholden to a small number of rich groups with only their own interests at heart. Have all electoral boundaries set by an independent commision so that most of the elections actually need to be fought to win, so that politicians will actually have to represent their constituents. If the polical process becomes more open and accessible, debate will get wider and there will be less fanaticism.
And for f**ks sake grow up! Republicans/ Democrats (delete as necessary) are not the enemy. They're your next door neighbours not child eating monsters!

If they DO dislike one another, it's because everyone wants to be right and no one cares about anyone else, least not their opinions and views. Most of my friends are liberal democrats whereas I'm a conservative Republican and we don't hate one another. Now we don't talk about politics much either because so few people know how to DISCUSS instead of ARGUE and I think that that applies to many people, sometimes including myself. If more people were open to at least HEARING other views (whether or not they ever change their minds), on BOTH sides of the fence, perhaps it would be better.
And it's Karl, I believe. Not Carl. And Karl is not God... he can only do so much swaying but a lot more when too many people don't think for themselves.

I despise the epublicans extra. The Democrats additionally are hypocritical opportunists, yet there have been some good ones, like Cynthia McKinney, Russ Feingold and Dennis Kucinich regrettably they have been defeated because of the fact of a Tea occasion phenomenon in the Democratic occasion. nonetheless, the Democrats are quite extra attentive to their ability based, this is composed of Romney's despised 40 seven% of the electorate, plus some extra. wish this helps

We don't necessarily dislike the people just the politcal agenda the propose, I'm a great society democrat as well as an atheist and one of my best friends is an evangelical right wing Christian, some of our best converstaions revolve around our differences not or similarities, of course here on the internet it's easy to be harsh when you don't have to face the person you're attacking, I fall prey to this myself sometimes but I'm big enough to admit it

this is a new thing in america. there has been a very strong polarity fomented by the bush party as a deliberate strategy and it has worked well. carl rove is the architect of this harsh policy.
Over the past 200 years it has never been this harsh. It will mellow out now as they begin to cooperate again and the Rove regime dies out.

In generations past, one could assume that politicians from either party had a common goal for the betterment of America - they simply had different ideas for achieiving that end.
Today, it is evident that Democrats (at least the liberal wing that dominates the leadership) despises traditional American values and culture. Naturally, conservatives (some of who are Republican) despise Democrats and vice versa.

There are certain stereotypes associated with the parties, and some feel that if you are "this", then your opinion counts for nothing
