America needs a few things.
First thing, scrap the two party system. It will always encourage corruption. Instead lets do what other nations do and have a general election. Then take the two two cantidates and have a run off from there. This will encourage many parties. All too often people do not vote for a cantidate because they feel like they are throwing their vote away.
Second ban both Democrats and Republicans. If a person has held a national office with one of those two parties ban them from holding office ever again. Then launch a massive investigation into both parties. I think most of the current national office holders will be in prison before long if we did this. The corruption is so rife that we have people a guy who escaped arrest in Abscam only because he said "I won't take your money yet" as the future chairman of the ways and means committee. Congress was scared by the Feds investigating another Congressman who got caught with a fridge full of cash. The recent conviction of a lobbiest and resulting scandal is just the tip of the iceberg there.
Next thing we need to do is ban lawyers from writing laws. It is a serious conflict of interest. Today far too many laws are comprehensible only to a lawyer and some confuse even the lawyers. How can ignorance of the law not be an excuse when nobody can even understand if what they are doing is legal or not?
That brings me to the next section. Every US citizen should have a law book. It should be written in understandable English for the majority of Americans. How can you enforce laws when people have no idea they exist? Most Americans commit felonies today and don't even know their doing it. That is just insane.
Next laws should not be made by the courts. The job of the courts is to decide guilt and innocence and the Constitutionality of a law. If the law does not violate the Constitution then tough. The courts are NOT legislative branches. Nor is there redress for any laws made by the courts. As such they have become uncontrolled power striking with random injustice across the nation.
Next, politicians should be under permanent investigation the whole time they hold office. Every time they spit people should be looking up whether there was a bribe involved. Corruption is the enemy of any economy. It is the rot in Democratic societies. A threat to the freedom and prosperity of all. It would be better to have honest pscyhopaths in office than corrupt politicians. Then follow them after the elections to make sure they do not pick up belated bribes.
High ranked Cival Servents should then retire when out of office. An ex-president running around the country doing paid speeches is like prostituting the honor of the country. It is an open invitation to receiving bribes and a really poor example to the world. Somebody who wants to be president should be willing to sacrafice for the nation. It is an honor to serve as such. By limiting what they can do afterwards it will curb the ultra greedy from seeking the job.
Proffesional politicians are an evil. Even if they start out with good intentions they will eventually be corrupted by the years of service. As such term limits not just on a specific job but how many years a person may serve in all political office is needed. Perhaps 12 years total service on a Federal level. 8 years in cabinets. This will shuffle politicians out before they can be so entrenched that they create empires.
These are the changes I feel are needed.

I wouldn't say that its corruption I am worried about. More or less its whether I'll have a good paying job or be drafted into Iraq or N Korea after the prez is through. But absolutely yes there should be and there is but they are all too often extremists and need to worry more about what the people want instead if themselves. For example the "Legalize Marijuana Party" is a real party that wants to take most of the drug offenders out of prison and legalize all recreational drugs!

We have third parties. They can't get anywhere because the two main parties conspire together to keep them out. But do not doubt for a minute that were any third party ot gain any power, they would become corrupt as well. Power corrupts.

The US has third parties. However until they're given a fair chance to compete (e.g. by being allowed to take part in the Presidential debates etc), they won't get anywhere.

HUMMM...lobbyist splitting millions of dollars three ways instead of two. Sure why not. I am sure the third party would not be as corrupt as the other two.
