It's just a game support the ruler no matter how violently out of control he gets and if you don't you're a traitor/ unpatrioitic.
Of course in the US, so called land of the free (haha excuse me while I collapse in hysterical fits of laughter) you're supposed to have freedom of speech but I think Bush is doing a pretty good job of abolishing that supported by his red necks who will still be waving flags when he locks them all up for 9 o'clock curfew.

I think it depends on how "Patriotism" gets defined.
I have seen no evidence to the contrary, only liberals claiming that conservatives are NOT patriotic because we do not buy into the conspiracy theories.

Patriotism is a personal belief, not a party belief and we all act it out in our own ways. We are basically either for or against the war in Iraq, neither stance has anything to do with being patriotic. That's a policy decision that was made in Washington. I can't recall any demonstrations by our Armed Forces demanding a war to prove their patriotism. If another country landed armed forces on our soil we would see patriotism.

Who said it was the exclusive domain of conservatives?
This is a very inflammatory "either or" statement.
I think there are Patriots in every race, creed, ethnicity and Party affiliation.

If there is so much evidence to the contrary, that evidence alone should be the answer to this question. However, because of many liberal stances on many different issues, patriots tend to be conservative.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel - Samuel Johnson
But I prefer what ambrose Bierce had to say about it "In Dr. Johnson's famous dictionary, patriotism is defined as the last refuge of a scoundrel...I beg to submit it is the first."

What evidence to the contrary? (Do you know there's a clone of you on here being particularly nasty?) I may not agree with you but cloning isn't the answer.)

I think TRUE patriotism (as opposed to the jingoistic rhetoric we hear from many conservative commentators) belongs to liberals and radicals.
H. L. Mencken said:
"The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who likes his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair"
True patriots love their country enough that when they see the Government doing something that will harm their country, they do something about it. For them, the good of the country is more important than blindly following what the Government wants them to do out of fear of some conservative commentator suggesting that they're unpatriotic.
