It all depends on where you're starting from and if flying, which Round-The-World ticket you're on.

I travelled partially around the world for 9 months by travelling northwards from Singapore and making a westward turn when I reached Ulaan Baator (Mongolia) to go into Europe. I had to do this as I was travelling overland.

Try not to plan for the countries' holidays as it will cause more aggravation than satisfaction. Every country is beautiful in its own way. I generally find out about the festivals when I am 1 or 2 countries away and if there really is a cool festival there, I will then try to make it.

If you're in the States, you could try travelling north to Canada and then turn left to Russia and on to Europe or south to Asia.

As for visas, I generally only apply for it in the country prior to the country I'm going to. So I got my Russian visa (everybody needs a visa for Russia) when I was in Mongolia. Most people do not need visas for Europe and most places in Asia (except Myanmar).

Have a great trip!!! It's definitely worth it!!!!

Norway Can tempt with magnificent majestic fjords.
A boat trip to on the LyseFjord will take your breath away .
Sheer rock walls plummeting hundreds of meters straight
into the deep blue fjord.
In the summer you have the midnight sun and in the winter
If your really lucky you may see a nighttime display of
The Northern lights (Aurora Borelius ) a shimmering
cascade of colours lighting up the sky.
English is spoken everywhere .

Hogmany (New Years Eve) in Edinburgh, Scotland. Wrap up and have a great time. Or if that's too soon then Edinburgh in August for the Military Tattoo, and catch the Fringe Festival.
