gay marriage may become illegal once again in MA with the upcoming elections. What I want to know is whether the gay and lesbian couples that are currently married will still be considered legally married couples should the gay marriage ban go through.

if the federal govt decides that gay marriage is illegal then the couples that married in MA will no longer be married the license they purchased will be just a piece of paper.

There is nothing on the ballot in MA that would make it illegal this year. The ban wasn't even brought up for a vote by the legislature.

Support for banning Gay marriage around the country is dropping, so I really don't seeing it being banned in MA. The more people have gotten over the shock, the less logical it seems.

Federal legislation only covers how marriage is viewed at federal level. It won't affect state considerations.

It's not like banning Gay marriage is going to reduce homosexual activity. Many married people have humorously stated legalizing marriage would do more for that than anything. ;)

That really depends on the laws. As it stands, it doesn't look like those laws are going to make it past the state legislature to be put on the ballot for a vote.
The federal government doesn't affect the state laws on the subject without an amendment being passed and even then it would have to be specifically stated to be Retroactive removal for those LEGAL MARRIAGES to be dissolved.

I'd have to guess that if they make it illegal that would include those previously married :(
