I am 21 weeks pg. In the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing severe pain in the left hip! So severe in fact that it brings me to tears. It's usually when I sit for awhile or try to turn over in bed or sit indian style. It feels like I need my hip popped back into place. My hubby tried to stretch it but it didn't work. It feels like its gonna pop off-LITERALLY. Its really bad. Has anyone else exp this as a part of their pregnancy? Is this to be expected? I have an OB appt on Tuesday and I will bring it up to her then. I haven't gone to the Hospital thus far cuz I know they cant do any Xrays so whats the point. Any insight or experiences would make me feel a lil better til Tues. Thanks

I've had lots of kids--I know exactly what you are talking about. Your body is trying to make room for your new guest. There are lots of these fun little stabbing pains that come and go, or just stay around.

The best thing I found for the sharp hip pain that won't pop thing is to stretch. Sit on the floor and stretch your hamstrings. Stretch your legs as if you are trying out for cheerleader! Don't hold your breath; breathe in deeply as you go into a stretch. Imagine the oxygen rushing into your stretched muscles.

You can do this while talking to somebody, or watching TV, or folding laundry. Make it a habit and it will make SO many of those pregnancy aches much better. It is really the best exercise for so many reasons. Keep it up after baby is born too.

DO NOT PANIC! Please do bring it up to your OB. I had the EXACT same thing happen to me -- my hip literally popped out of the socket, as well as the baby was pressing on my sciatic nerve. So, believe me, I understand. If your OB will approve, please ask to see a chiropractor. I know some people do not believe in chiropractic care, but it honestly saved my life. You should see a chiropractor who is familiar with working with pregnant women --instead of manipulation, they should do gentle massage. My OB would not let me go and I was in agony. It took me over a year of weekly chiropractic visits to get my hip to stay back in place. Try soaking in the tub, or have your hubby rub your back gently to help ease the pain. I wish you all the luck in the world!

Yes. I experienced that in the third trimester. Try placing a relatively firm pillow between your legs while lying on your left side. The pain won't disappear completely, but you will definitely be more comfortable. During your "awake hours" try to move around as much as possible....curling up in bed with limited movement only tends to make it worse.

this happens to most woman durinng pregnancy its quiet normal
when it happens theres not much you can do but get into a confortable position or walk off the pain
This will continue for the rest of your pregnancy and it makes it a pain when you need to get up every 2 hours to go pee at night especially when it happens to both hips

ask ur Ob he or she will explain it all

I havent gotten there yet, but I have heard from many people that its normal to have severe hip pain. Yours could be on the worse side, but I hope nothing has come out of socket or anything. You may want to try prenatal yoga to stretch you out and get your body more limber.

Good Luck!

Baby could just be laying on a nerve. But do mention it at your OB appt. Ive had x-rays during pregnancy. They can be done but only if it is absolutely necessary.

Try lying on your back and squeezing a tennis ball or folded pillow between your knees, it may pop it back.

If not chiropractic care is wonderful during pregnancy. You can find one the specializes in prenatal care at:

I had it pretty bad too. I used a warm compress on my hip. I also found if I slept on one side too long that the bottom hip would start to hurt.
