My moniter flickers at least a little all the time, and about every twenty minutes or so, the screen goes completely black. I've been turning it off and then leaving for about 15 minutes before turning it back on, but recently even this hasn't been working.
My computer's refresh rate only goes to 70, and I'm not sure what else to do. All I know is that it's driving me crazy and is making it impossible to do work on my computer.

If it is a CRT or Cathode Ray Tube, this is the thicker type, not a flat liquid crystal type monitor, it sounds like your flyback module is going bad. The flyback is a high voltage component that can be adjusted by a tech but usually once they start to go it's a short matter of time. Sounds like you might want to be saving for a new monitor. Check out the flat monitors they are awesome. Flickering is not a good thing unless you're a Christmas light. Speaking of Christmas this might be a good time to drop a hint to someone about a "PRESENT shaped like a monitor!!!! Best of luck to you

For the refresh rate you should install video driver for your video card maybe that can help. Also lower your resolution see if more refresh rate option appear now. Try to uncheck the option to show only res supported by monitor and set 85 hz.

but anyway it seem that your monitor is going away. My NEC monitor did the same thing before dying.

You might try going to the website of the manufacturer of your video card. Find the exact model of your video card on their website, and download, and then install, the driver that they provide. Chances are that the driver does need reinstallation. Good luck.

i believe the olevia company has gone bankrupt, so tough break there... I say since these tv's are fairly cheap, and the price of lcd tv's have gone down considerably since you bought the olevia, just buy a new tv of a more well known brand that is more reliable.

Have you tried blinking really fast for about twenty mins? If you do this often enough you could get in time with the monitor and then it wouldn't bother you.
