If it turned the table white just where the pot was - in a circle - it is possilbe that time will cure it. On oak tables it often does. Before you go to the trouble and expense of refinishing it, just wait a bit - give it about a month giving your table its normal care. I bet it comes back to normal.

Some folks say you can rub the area with mayonaise and restore the finish. I have never tried it but give it a try before you start sanding.

If the finish is shellac, then you can lightly duff the area with a soft rag rolled into a smooth ball and just slightly damp with alcohol. If you try this, do keep the strokes very light and the alcohol content very, very light.

You may have to strip the finish and re-do it.
