All of the information you need can be found in the Wikipedia article on this volacano (see reference). In short, it is in Washington state. There was a minor eruption last year, but the volcano is most famous for its 1980 eruption that killed 57 people and did over a billion dollars of damage. Earthquakes occurred in the days before the eruption, but the volcano caused them and not the other way around. There was no tsunami. Mount St. Helens is a stratovolcano, identifiable by its conical shape. Its lava is mostly dacite.

Mt. St. Helens is located in SW Washington state. It's last major eruption was may 18, 1980 at 8:32 a.m. which was a sunday. It had minor eruptions until 1986, and in the last couple of years has shown some small activity due to dome rebuilding. Around 50-60 people died, but the number would have been much larger if the eruption was any other day than sunday. Sunday was the only day that loggers didn't work within the blast zone area. The mountain lost around 2500 feet, going from 10,000+ to a little over 8000(exact numbers not sure). I don't remember what kind of volcano it was, and it produced very small amounts of lava. What it did produce was lahar, or pyroclastic flows which is just superheated mud and gasses moving at very rapid speeds. This is what caused most of the damage. The Toutle river valley which comes out of the NE side of the mountain was filled with 500-1000 ft. of mud from the base of the mountain to many miles down valley(sorry again exactnumber not sure of). There are hundreds of websites with more exact info and I'm sure some of them will have full length video of the eruption. Hope this will help a little.
