Because there are people out there that don't want to work. They want free handouts that you pay for with your taxes. We work so others can be lazy.

Employers often hang out the sign just to build up application files because they have to keep an application on file just so long then it goes into storage for about 5 years then they get thrown away. This allows them to keep files up to date in case they need someone. Also many employers now do background checks and credit checks even for dishwasher jobs. Its part of the anti-terrorism and illegal alien solution.
There is a manufacturer here that had a NOW HIRING sign out front for 2 years before I applied there. A year and a half later when I went back on a routine followup, the sign was still there.
I told a woman i was there to follow up on my application that I had posted before, she asked me if I spoke spanish. When I said no,she told me they would not hire me for that.

I would really like to know what you would do if you found yourself in that kind of position! I'm sure you yourself would or HAVE accepted help in your time. I take it your the kind of bloke who only has his own backside to look after. Not everything is as it seems. When you next find yourself unemployed, and lacking confidence like a lot of ppl do. Why don't you apply for all these alleged jobs.

Who wants to work for 7 dollars per hour. Welfare pays more. Here in Michigan a restaurant worker gets $2.65 cents an hour. No one can live on that. I'd take welfare first.

you have to be employable to get the job - not merely unemployed. And that covers a plethora of issues, good and bad! The bottom line, however, is that I for one, want my food in restaurants to be cooked and served by clean, competent and capable people.................so thats half the unemployed out of the question for those jobs already!

Many don't want to work. I think the government should put them to work and if they don't stay, cut out the benefits. Of course that is for ably bodied people.

Some people would rather live off handouts than work, and our government is daft enough to let them. Go to any city centre, you can see them, out of their brain on cheap booze and drugs, bought with our hard earned money, which should be going to pay OAPs a decent pension!
