We are working with outdoor cedar furniture, so what kind of treatment would work the best?

cedar is very pories and oily wood and I would not put polyurethane on it. You actually should not do anything to this type of wood and let it weater naturally. If you must put somthing on it a wood oil perservative is recommended

Just use Polyurethane on it
