The UK has like it or not been protestant for many years, how then does a Mosque fall into the planning requirement of "in keeping with the local enviroment".
It is bad enough the law that states that shops should clearly state the propritors name in legible English is being flouted, the poor women had her cross objected to et al.
Is it not time that we the English stood up for the UK.
To wit no walking down the street with face obscured.
All coppers wear helmets as opposed to bandages,
Shop fronts written in English,
Take these things for a start and work up.
These are not rascist, the africans, chinese, west indians, and others accept our culture, and when we go to other countries we are not allowed beer, women cannot drive they also have to cover up.
So how about it Brits?

I do so agree.I lived in Muslim countries for many years and adhered to their code of conduct.I feel the old adage 'when in Rome do as the Romans do' is as true today as it ever was.
We are a Christian country and welcome people from all over the globe to live here and benefit from living here so please do not shove your beliefs in our faces as a way of saying thank you!
We respect your beliefs so why cannot you respect ours and leave your veils at home

I didn't know the plan had been rejected. They were talking about it on an LBC radio phone-in the other day as if the mosque was still a possibility. The presenter suggested that as it would be quite a sizeable building it could be used as a concert venue on 'non-holy days'. (Yeah right. I can just see that happening.) He betrayed his musical tastes by saying he wouldn't mind seeing Kylie Minogue do a gig there. Now call me a conspiracy theorist if you like, but his is probably why planning permission was refused.

Erm. Sorry, define what being English is again?

The UK has a long and proud history of welcoming people from overseas, starting with Jews in the 11th and 12 centuries. There were French and Dutch Huguenots, in the 16th and 17 centrues, Irish refugees, and more recently Jews fleeing the pogroms in Eastern Europe, people from the west Indies, the Indian subcontinent etc.

Each time, these groups have strengthed our nation. Lets face it - the national dish of fish and chips came over in the 19th century with the Eastern European Jews.

At the moment, the immigrant workforce contribute approx. £2.5bn a year to the economy. Most are young and healthy and in paid employment, so take less out of the NHS, income support etc than most UK citizens.

Our culture is based on fairness, equality and welcome for all. Most immigrants accept this and live within thise cultural values. Its a shame the same can't be said for some native born Brits.

Just so you know Northern Ireland's local authorities refused planning permission for a mosque, and as a result the province has none.

same as ne1 else they ask the local council for permission they put them yello notices up with details of there proposed plan and no one objects so the development goes ahead if you objected to there proposed development and had a case,ie grounds to object it would somehow inerfere with your life u could stop any building being built not just mosqe

Well then it would be hypocritical for you to have a curry next time you had a night out, wouldn't it?
People of all cultures are welcome where I live. If you don't like it, tough.
