EDIT: Hmmmm. Getting thumbs down for stating my age and religious belief. Clearly, the crazy, rabid God squad are alive and well on this thread. I would go round and give all the believers thumbs down like they've done to us but i'm not that sad and I believe in live and let live. Obviously they don't. What a surprise!!!!

What's the downside to believing in God? Our species has believed in God throughout its history. On a personal level the belief provides solace in times of trouble and alienation . . . a portal, if you will, on a greater connection with creation and the natural world. I'm practical, I believe in God. The belief does me good.
So long as I do not transform that belief into some ideology bent on enforcing its correctness on others it serves me and the greater good. It opens , rather than narrows me . . . always a good thing.
In short, my internal wiring feels comfortable with the notion of God, not just my head, but those sweet endorphine producing cells in my heart (really just as many there as in the brain - who'da thunk it).
God? Sure, why not, and just as helpful by anyother name. I'm 52.

Everyone has to believe in something, I do believe there is a God but what this question has to do with politics is beyond me, I am 60+. Perhaps you can enlighten us as to what the political connection is

Old enough to know that God is merely a word for strength of the combined belief of a populous

It is important to understand that belief in God has NOTHING to do with organized religion. I believe in an infallible being or entity but not in any of the religions that claim to represent his/her views.

I WISH this were not a political question.
And I will not bother to read all the pious professions of faith that are undoubtedly here. I don't care what people believe. I care what they KNOW.
