The answer to this question lies in what it is you're looking for in a gaming experience. Nintendo tends to focus on story driven titles with very solid game play (in general).Traditionally Nintendo has focused on family oriented games but with the WII you will now have some access to M rated and Teen Rated titles. It has a very unique input system that (as everyone who's read anything about the Wii probably knows) uses two motion sensing controllers (the wiimote) that is motion sensitive and delivers a very innovative way to interact with games. Wii also included vintage downloadable Nintendo and SNES games. Like the PS3, the Wii includes wi-fi and memory slots. And also like the PS3, this system is backwards compatible with Gamecube games. There are drawbacks though. The Wii plays only standard definition. It also lacks capabilities for CD and DVD playback which may turn many gamers off. But these ommisions are reflected in the price which is about half as much as the PS3. Staple games Like Zelda and Mario will drive this platform along with unique titles centered around fun lighthearted gameplay.
As for the PS3, it is an amazing piece of computing hardware capable of displaying 1080p HD video through an uncompressed HDMI port. It has been called "the cadillac of gaming" by CNEt editors. This is due in part to built in wi-fi, multiple card readers, a web browser, free online gaming, backwards compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, compatibility with the PSP, an included BluRay player (a true High Definition movie format) which Sony is betting will be the new standard in HD video - and if they can hit just a percenteage of the PS2's installed base market, BluRay will be tough to beat . Bluray holds almost double the storage capacity than it's main competitor HDDVD. BluRay discs also transfer data at a much faster rate.
The PS3 is widely considered the superior technological machine to the XBOX360 and far superior to the Wii.In fact, the advanced technology inside the PS3 is so new and expensive, Sony is purported to be losing $300 on average on each unit sold. The majority of this price deficit comes from the Bluray player. Comparable dedicated set top Bluray boxes are selling for almost $1000.
The high price tag and advanced technology coupled with Sony's more mature oreinted games, makes this machine more suited to adults who want the best game console available and aren't afraid of paying for it.

Most places have PS3 kiosks that you can try the system Game Stop has a Wii Kiosks. Really try both systems, the more I look at the PS3 the less interest I have in it. As a player of Coleco and Artari 20 + years ago I think its dumb to say "the PS3 has better graphics get that" you should really seek better gameplay. I like the innovative crontrols on the Wii. And don't let that Blu Ray DVD tag fool you. Right now the games are still in the normal DVD format. If you dont have a 360 I would suggest that. But you have the money...get the Wii and Zelda(if your a Zelda fan) you'll have left over money for other things, get a PS3 later if you still want. I myself probably wont buy a PS3 for atleast a year or more.

Why do people keep asking this question? This has been answered a thousand times.
If you can afford it and like what the PS2 gave you, the PS3 will be a heck of a lot more of the same thing with better graphics.
If you're tired of the same old thing and want to try something a little different and can appreciate games that are more quirky and really just fun, get a Wii.

I considered many of the categorised classified ads for Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3.. yet I ought to assert, the final one may be PS3.. The music "women folk and gents" became attracting.. the financial for PS3 became extreme.

Depends on what kinda games you like. If you're a Mario or Zelda fan, it's gotta be Wii.
