We had the same problem in our kitchen. We had the exterminator come and treat the inside and outside of our house every couple of months and we didn't see any more ants.

Ant burrow deeper into the ground and eat the food that they saved up all year. The cool thing about ants is that even if they freeze in some ice, when spring comes, they can thaw out and keep going like nothing happened. Also, ants never sleep. They are always busy.

they can come in through the smallest cracks not nessessarily the register.I had this problem too and got rid of them with ordinary flea spray because i have cats in the house .
I thought fleaspray would be much safer for them because it is designed for them.Just spray all the corners and cracks around the baseboard and they will be gone in no time.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful
