I've had my dell for a year or two. The other day i was running it on just the battery and the battery got really low so I tried to plug it in. The laptop wouldn't register the power cord and the battery wouldn't charge so the laptop turned off. The power cord is new and it worked for a while. Now the laptop wont turn on or register that the power cord is even plugged in. The same thing happened to my friend. The battery got real low so she tried to plug it in but the laptop didn't see the cord and the battery died and the power went off. My laptop wont turn on! Has this happened to you or do you know how to fix it? HELP PLEASE!!

The exact same thing happened to my Inspiron 6000 (purchased Feb 2005). I bought a new cord and that didnt fix the problem so I wound up taking it in for repairs yesterday. It seemed like the cord wasnt "touching" something inside and missing the connection because the green light was orange all the time for several weeks. Tape and rubber bands helped for awhile. Of coarse the warranty ran out NINE months ago. (go figure)

Try leaving the battery off for 24 hours. Then plug it in turn it on, and create a back up disk. Save all information and purchase a newer laptop.

Try removing the battery, then plugging it in without that. Maybe the battery is shorted out.

You might try calling Dell Tech support.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Seems to be a general problem. Check if it's really plugged in properly and push it in while you swich on the laptop again. Maybe it's not the cord but the plug on the laptop.

It sounds like the wall adapter is bad. The yellow light is a power indicator. Most likely there is a short in the wire. They are inexpensive to replace. Look on the DC converter box for the part number and do a google search. Be sure to use a reputable website for the purchase.

Answer to your question: Dells suck, why would you buy a dell? I tell all our customers to not buy dell, ignore the fact that they are *cheap*, whats the point of something cheap if it doesn't work for you, if it doesn't have the realibilty of every other product? Next time, spend a few hundred bucks and get an HP, or hell build it yourself.

** NEVER BUY DELL * www.dellsucks.com

As for your power cord problem... dell batteries are known to die early, as you probaly heard about their recent recall.

good luck
