It depends on what audience you want to target. I have found Religion and Spirituality to be the most interesting on Sunday Mornings and a lot of fun late on the weekends. I can't really speak to other areas.
To determine the best time I try to figure out what most of the people are doing in America at a specific time. Remembering the time zones you will find that 8-10pm EST can have any age in all time zones, for example (because it is 5-7pm PST) so you can target the largest american audience during that time.
Of course, earlier in the day you are getting foreign folks, housewives and the home bound as well as folks doing this instead of working - then the kids come home around 3pm EST. It's very interesting. Ebay has made quite a study of usage, for the purpose of scheduling auction closing times. It's very interesting.
Peace!
