Well it will look the same, but if you play Xbox games on a Xbox 360 it will upconvert them to 720p(HiDef) so Xbox games will look outstanding on HDTV's.

PS3 cant play most PS2 games at all. It's broken. Keep your PS2 around.

XBOX 360 cant play XBOX games at all, no matter how hard you try.

Maybe they will get the bugs worked out in 3 or 4 years.

In the meantime, you can play every Nintendo and PC-Engine/Turbo Grafix game every created on the Wii. And they are adding support for all the SEGA systems as well, and the Commodore 64 and more. You want past compatability, the Wii does it all. Much better system, 2x the horsepower of the XBOX 360 in half the size and 1/4 the price. No brainer.

the PS3 will not upconvert. the picture will look a little nicer if you're playing on a better screen, cuz the PS3 has the ability, but the game itself cannot be changed. it will run tho.

the 360 can play some original xbox titles, but you would need to download free emulators for different titles, based on which game engines they run on, basically which titles were made by which company. microsoft's xbox site has a list of the games they have certified (i.e. Tested) to run on the 360.
