To truly understand how tourism affects jamaica other info has to be taken into account. Jamaica is a free market economy, that has a divers economy, however, because Jamaica it has a huge trade imbalance with a majority of its trading partners(due to a weak manufacturing sector, caused by high interest rates, and high electricity),this affects how much of the tourism dollar remains in the country, some 60 to 70 % of the dollar goes back out of the country(90% percent of all containers at the port of Kingston are imports as was estimated sometime ago) this info was also hot debate on one popular morning talk program(The Break Fast Club) with well educated individuals from the countries University and leading economist of the country.
Tourism has alot of positive, such as foreign exchange that is well needed, however most of that exchanged is stifled off by all inclusive hotels and other big players, who's operations operate and oasis in the desert like scenario, because of them trying to protect their business,as crime some times, even though far away from were the tourist stay, can be hype up to be more than it is,there fore few others outside the industry benefit such as craft vendors.
Jamaica also benefits as new jobs are created for workers in the construction industry and direct employment to the hotel once it has been completed, also local business persons may benefit from future expansion, such places are like restaurants and banks.

Disadvantages:It can sometimes cause massive destruction to the environment, such as coastal Areas being lost to development, locals losing beaches for recreational purposes, squatting(perosns who move and build upon land areas that are not theirs) By shortage of houses or unplanned housing needs, which can cause further damages to the environment.

It relies heavily on tourism (tourism being one on of the world's largest industries). It provides employment for the locals, but at the same time there are lots of negative impacts. One being that Jamaica doesn't have an adequate sewer/waste disposal system, so all waste goes back to the ocean without regard to the people who remain on the island longterm. There's also the increased pollution, etc.

There's an interesting video that focuses on tourism in Jamaica and the negative impacts that tourists don't see. You should look for it.. it's really interesting.

the coolest impact is the quantity of money it brings into the rustic. I surely have been going there each year for the final 8 years. throughout the time of that factor I surely have considered progression in the airport and incredibly the roads. i think of that tourism is the style 2 revenues source for his or her united states of america. I easily dont see a draw back to or undesirable impact of tourism. Grouper Groaper has something against all inclusive hotels and vacationer areas.
