Did you copy the question right? Answers c and d don't make sense. The blank is asking about the acceleration, with the force given, but those answers give information about the force.

If I am reading it correctly. I think it's e.

If a force of 100 N acts on 1 kg to produce an acceleration of 1 m/s^2, then the 100 N is not the net force on the object. In the second part, given only a new mass and new force of 2 N, we cannot determine what the new acceleration is. There is another force opposing our applied force of 2 N, but we don't know what it is, so we cannot calculate the new acceleration.

I guess we can do a proportion of 100/0.5 = 2/a, and get 1/100 for the acceleration, but that would only work if the net unknown force is not dependent on the mass of the object.

P.S. The acceleration cannot be the same. Think about it. F=ma. If F is significantly less, then the ma part would have to be significantly less also. If m is more, then the a has to be less. Combining those, if F goes from 100 to 2, and m goes from 1 to 2, a would have to be significantly less.

i think it would be (e)

f=ma
100 N=1 kg * 1 m/s^2

2 N=2 kg*v
----------------
2kg

v=1 m/s^2

therefore, it was the same amount of force, not 100 times as much.
