George Washington was the first President of the United States under the current US Constitution. However, the constitution was not ratified until 1789.
Prior to the constitution, the US was run under The Articles of Confederation from 1781-1789. The first president under the Articles of Confederation was Samuel Huntington.
The US won its independence in 1781. However, independence was declared in 1776. At the time, the US was run by the Continental Congress. Its presiding officer was John Hancock.

the first president or the first electorail president the first elected was Gorge Washington but there were several presidents of the US before that. The chairperson of the senate is addressed as president even by the so called president of the US. The first was John Hancock hope that helps.
