The base material for game boards is called chipboard. It is the same type of stuff used for backing notepads, only a bit thicker. You can usually buy it in sheet form at craft supply stores. The material used for matting photographs or other artwork is also a fine substitute. Use fabric tape to make any hinges in a folding board and to cover the edges of the board. For the playing surface, you may want to consider some sort of matte laminate material (such as a transparent contact paper) to protect the board. Use a roller to slowly apply the adhesive paper from one side to the other and work out any bubbles before they have a chance to form.

It's made from wood
Why?
Because paper is from wood, card boards are from wood? Many things that brought up a board game is from wood, other than software board games that is made from computer codes
But basically it's from wood, and chemicals.
Why chemicals? Paint, coloring materials, and paste / glue are made from mixed chemicals.
Why there is paint?
Paint is part of the materials to color the board of a board game ;)
Why there is paste?
Paste is used as an adhesive for the paper and cardboard to stick each other. That's why paste / glue are part of the materials to make a board game :)
I think I forgot something.. aaaAA!! Chemicals to Make Plastic, like the dice cube, it's a plastic that is made from several chemicals that I can't identify what is it.. Try to google it, and let's see what are the results ;)
- I Hope this helps...

Wood, boards. Get it? "Board" game. It does not say "paper" game or "plastic" game. Back in the day, board games were originally just made of wood. But in present times paper, plastic, metal, fiberglass, and any other number of object a board may be made out of, or any of these objects may be included in a board game.
Evolution at it's greatest...

i should imagine they`re called board games because they used to be made out of a board (a large flat piece of wood ) these days however like most things they`re usually made the cheapest way for the highest price so now they`re card board and a few bits of cheap plastic and maybe the odd bit of paper .which costs a few pence to make and then we`re stupid enough to pay £20 to £30 for .there are only chess sets left i think that you can buy made from good quallity materials at one time chess pieces were even made from ivory or jade

Small children.
Seriously, original game boards were made from wood. Now they are made from a compressed cardboard. The "game pieces" are usually plastic or a type of pot metal (cheap).
Hope this helps!

Cardboard with a layer of plastic surrounding it. Now plastics are a deep study. I suggest you do a Wikipedia search on plastics to know precisely which plastics are used in toys.
