William Shakespeare give this name. Now is a bit late to ask him why he choose these name.
The Tragicall Historie of Hamlet, Prince of Denmarke is a tragedy by William Shakespeare and is one of his best-known and most-quoted plays. The evidence suggests that it was complete and being performed by 1600, but had some topical references added (which still survive) the following year.
Hamlet is probably the most popular of Shakespeare's plays, judging by the number of productions; for example, topping the list at the Royal Shakespeare since 1879. The plot contains elements of revenge tragedy, fratricide, murder, existentialist self-questioning and supernatural intervention. It is Shakespeare's longest play, and the part of Prince Hamlet is by far the largest role in any of his plays.

You could question any title of any play ...
It is a tragedy about Hamlet who is the Prince of Denmark - the title does what it says on the tin.

The vast majority of Shakespeare's plays were adaptions of previous writers stories. The title may have been taken from the original text, if you get a version with a decent introduction (Arden Shakespeare's are good) this will be discussed.

Strength: Hamlet has a good sense of moral outrage and justice. He sees the bad things his mother and Claudius have done, as well as the sycophantism of Polonius and Ophelia, and he tries to make things right. Weakness: His indecision. Despite seeing what is "rotten in the state of Denmark," he finds himself unable to convince himself to act to fix things before it's too late.

Also, Shakespeare had a son named "Hamnet" who died at an early age and wanted to write a play for him. Don't know if the son died before or after the play.

Presumably because it would give us some information about what the story was about.
