I just don't comprehend the + and - when it comes to recordable formats. Which is best? Is there a DVD recorder that will do both? I'm looking to transfer Hi8 to DVD format and VHS to DVD format..also record t.v. shows to send to Iraq for dh. I already have a VHS player but need to purchase a DVD recorder.
Am I on the right track?

When you compare DVD-R and DVD+R, there are no differences other than compatibility. They both store the same amount, cost the same and look the same. Compatibility is the key factor. Most DVD players will play one or the other. Rarely will they play both. Most DVD players will play DVD-R. This is the more popular format. If you are distributing these recorded DVD's to other people, you are better to record all your shows in DVD-R. Therefore, look for a DVD recorder that supports DVD-R. Even though, DVD recorders should be able to burn both formats as they do on computer DVD drives.
