Ah bless her. My 13 yr old dalmatian has taken to getting me up a couple of times in the night. It isn't cos she is lonely as I have two other dogs. They all sleep downstairs in the kitchen together. She has only just started doing this is the past few months, sometimes its very frustrating but you have to remember that she is very old and you will be one day! I have asked the question before on here and get some very positive answers. i will be taking my dog to the vets next week just to get her checked out, she too is wobbly on her back legs and takes steroids. It may be worth having a chat with your vet just for some ideas. Good luck with her anyway :)

I too have an old dog I have been sleeping downstairs on the couch for nearly a year with her as she always slept in the bedroom with me before her legs got bad and she couldnt manage the stairs.Your dog probably wants to know where you are if you are with her all day then dissapear at night then she may feel worried. My girl got very stressed before when I tried going up to bed and leaving her downstairs.
You should check with the vet too in case there is any other problem making her stress out

awh the poor thing. been looking after my friend old dog for three weeks now and she's done it a few nights. there is nothing wrong with her but her back legs are also getting stiff, think it may be that they are not as comfortable as they could be. try a new bed and check with the vet.
it also could be a new trick that she's learnt, if she pines for a bit you'll get up so everytime she fancies some attention or a change of scenery she does it!

Take her to the vets to make sure she isn't in any discomfort.
It could be that the old girl wants some love warmth and comfort in her last few years. Can you not put her bed in the same room as you she might settle then? She could be going senile or it could be that she's worried about going to the loo in the house, maybe her bladder isn't as strong as it used to be and she is worrying. Can you not fit a dog flap or leave the door open for her? My 10year old JRT sleeps on the bed with me or in his basket on the floor which he is happy with,he lets me know when he wants the loo and I get up to let him out. My two English Bull terriers sleep in their Crate in the spare room which they love as it's their own space, I have no problem getting up two or three times a night to let them out in the garden, the joy the give me every day is worth the disturbed night!

Poor Meg, I am sure you will have taken her to the vet to find out nothng is terribly wrong. She is getting old so you can't expect her to be full of the joys like a pup. Of course, if it was me she would be in the bed with me. I am far too soft. Good luck, treat the old lady with love and respect for the years she has given you.

Poor Meg....could be confused about daytime and night time....is she doing her business when she goes out?? Can you tell her to go back to bed when she wants out....I do that with my dog...it works...however it sounds like Meg is asking through out the night...it could be her age....maybe just make sure you let her out for a long time before bed...or take her for a short walk...
Good Luck to you and Meg!!

Poor Meg. She is getting old. Does she have a cushion to lie on in the house. I would suggest you buy one and then let her sleep in your bedroom. You could take her to the vet if the cushion and letting her sleep with you don't help

Maybe the lawn is more comfortable to a sore ol' dog, than whatever she has to lay on, inside.
Try getting her a cushioned dog bed, to help with the pain.

I gather she is under the vet, have you asked about this problem? May be she has badder problems, you know, thinks she wants to then doesn't, this does happen as they get older,i don't know how to get round this, but she's very old in doggy years, just treat her like you would your nan

Poor old thing, it MAY be that she feels like going to the loo and she would not want that indoors, it may be she knows her last days are coming and she wants her past.
Has anything changed recently?
