I can understand your perspective, as in general there are two types of transsexuals: those who are still very expressive about themselves, are involved in the LGBT community, and may not look completely as though they are the gender they profess, and then the transsexuals that have transitioned long enough ago to perhaps have families and to lead more hetronormative lives (there are some transexuals who are also gay, in which case they stick with the LGBTs and fall into the first category here). I think that a lot of who you know are people from the first section, and while I really hesitate to say that they aren't "normal," since I think defining that is really difficult and subjective, I am sure that all transsexuals are not abusive. Sometimes female to males can have trouble adjusting to the increased power afforded to them by society while they express as males, but potential to abuse and be abused runs though all communities. I don't like in the United Kingdom, so I can't say anything specifically about the NHS. What I do know is that in the United States transsexuals have a lot of trouble paying for their sex changes, because gender identify disorders aren't covered here, despite having gone through the various checks on wether they are ready to live as a different gender than they were born. GID is a legitimate disorder, and I think that if it can be covered under health insurance, that people suffering with it should absolutely be entitled to coverage.

It would depend entirely on the persons concerned. If they want to be in one, then there is no stopping them. They might be transexuals but to them they are as normal as normal people can be.
