Ive noticed that whenever somebody posts a silly joke question about swinging cats etc, people in this section get all righteous and take great pleasure in missing the joke and calling them sickos. So I wonder, how many of you are true animal lovers and demonstrate this by being a vegetarian? How is a cats life more valuable than a pigs, why do people campaign about dolphins being caught in nets, what about the tuna??!

Msnite, I have been a vegetarian since I was ten so thats nearly 20 years, i have helped out cat charities and have rehomed many cats, the reason i know people are joking is that i talk to many of them who do it, they do it plain and simply to get a rise out of the overly sensitive people on here. If these people were actually torturing animals would they come on here and brag about it?!

I've been a lacto/ovo veggie for 20 years because I love animals. I can't understand why my mother for instance says she "loves" her cats but will consume chicken!? She maintains a 50 gallon fish tank and "loves" her fish but will dine on it at a restaurant. Doesn't make a bit of sense to me.

I love animals, do not like jokes about cruelty, and I'm not a vegetarian. Animals in the wild eat each other, and my belief is that we're meant to, also. You would never ask a lion to become a vegetarian, for example.

We have a huge responsibity to to raise and slaughter our food animals in humane ways, and treat them with respect, but that doesn't mean I won't eat meat. The natural food store I shop at carries meat, but only from local farms that use humane practices and no hormones or antibiotics. You can be an omnivore, and still treat animals with kindness and respect.

That being said - I respect vegetarians' right to choose that lifestyle. Peace,

I am an animal lover but I am not a vegan. I don't think a pigs life is less valuable than a cats. I actually own a pig, his name is Rufus. I would never eat him or any of my cats. I don't think it is healthy to live without meat though. And I cannot say I don't enjoy the taste of meat, because I do. Just because you eat meat doesn't mean you are not an animal lover.

I'm working on becomming a vegetarian
(still take free samples of baked goods w/out asking if there are eggs, etc included)
youngest son IS a vegan

everyone I know loves animals
even if they don't own one

vegan son is darn near in training (unwittingly) to become a buddist
he won't kill any creature
come ON he won't eat freaking YEAST let alone honey or TOUCH an animal by-product

I feel proud that folks are able to discuss this without being stoned or belittled
Also feel dolphins are a true miracle species...and yeah
not all beings are equal IMO

A true animal lover doesn't have to be a vegetarian. Eating to live and saying that you are abusing an animal are 2 different things. And how do you know these people are joking when they state those type of questions?? You don't and neither do us who call them sickos.

Are you a vegetarian? Do you belong to PETA? What do you do to help the animal community out??

I volunteer at an animal shelter by cleaning cat cages a few times a week, I foster dogs until we can find them a forever home, I promote spaying and neutering and I raise money for a local dog rescue. And ALL of my animals have been adopted.

I'm a vegan because i love animals and posting questions about animals being harmed is not funny at all and not a subject that should be joked with! it doesn't make people over-sensitive just shows we care, how can you be an animal lover and think it funny.

Being an animal lover and being a vegetarian are 2 different things. Caring for animals that are used for produce is equally important. Humans aren't developed to be vegetarians. But how we handle things is up to everyone!

I love animals but I have eyes at the front of my head therefore I am a meat eater. I eat produce from local small holdings. I know the animals have been well cared for and have been slaughtered humanely. Sorry but that's the best I can do!

It's part of life, to eat meat. Humans are omnivores, and you cannot blame us for that, anymore than you can blame a coyote for eating a rabbit.
It's part of survival. Some thrive without it, some do not.
There is a difference between breeding an animal for food purposes, and abusing a domestic animal.

I am an animal lover and I eat meat. I do not see the contradiction. Animals are NOT humans. They do not have individual souls, and there is no sin in killing them for food, if it is done with a minimum of fear and pain. Humanely, to put it simply.

Note, for example, the kosher laws governing slaughter. The knife must be very, very sharp, with no knicks or spurs to slow it down. It must cut cleanly across the main artery, to make death as quick and painless as possible. And there are prayers to be said, as there are in other religions. Native Americans typically had a prayer or song to the spirit of the animal which gave its life for their food. (Note an animal spirit is of the entire species, not of an individual specimen.)

We do not eat the same animals we take as pets, mostly because in giving them individual names, we get to anthropomorphizing them, and it seems too close to cannibalism. But it is NOT cannibalism, and that fact needs to be remembered.

Vegetarians seldom get enough complete protein to be really healthy and have good mental capacity -- protein is essential for proper brain function.

Well, I hope those who would say me killing a turkey for my Thanksgiving plate doesn't make me an animal hater. Many animals were put here for our use, and that can include eating sometimes. Besides, if I had to live on peas, carrots and cranvberry sauce alone, I would die -- or wish I were dead!
