I end up shaking my head in disbelief at the sheer amount of ignorance, sometimes hatred that I find on here. Are some questions and answers what people are really thinking at the back of their mind and take advantage of the protection that anonymous internet postings give?

I've seen good people on Y!A and I've seen people who are just messing around and people who are down-right hateful.
I suggest trying to lead by example. Ask GOOD questions, post GOOD answers, ignore stupidity.

yea I see this alot..
when I first came here I wanted to clear missunderstanding between muslims & none-muslims just know the reasons for hating muslims & try t oleft the foge from many leis about Islam
I respect all relegion but when I ask any question concerning Islam & others , I recieve very bad answers that shows that the hatred & that every relegion has its terrorisists & extremists
I really hate 2hear insaulting to my beliefe & I never insaulted any beliefe..

Probably. But there are, upon occasion, relatively meaningful queries made by those who really want to know and also responses that display a degree of knowledge and understanding along with compassion and patience. You just gotta winnow the chaff from the wheat.

I too have found myself shocked at what I read here. I think your theory of the protection of anonymisity is 100% correct. It's scary to think that these individuals walk amongst us. Do they blend in and appear to be in sync with society then log on here and post what they really think? Do I work with these individuals? Am I neighbors with these individuals? Do they work at my child's school? Needless to say, It concerns me.

Scary, isn't it? I never knew there were so many bigoted, uneducated, and simple minded people as there are.
I sometimes think the questions and answers have to be made up------no one can be as stupid as some sound.
