Don't do it, let the train take the strain.

Firstly, you'll be coming in from the west, probably using the M4 motorway, although you could also take the M40/A40 (more northerly route). Whichever route you take, avoid the congestion zone around central London - that's £8 at the moment.

You don't say which part of London you want to end up at - London is 28 miles across, so it does make a big difference.

You also don't say what time of day, and whether it is a weekday, you'll be driving in. That too can make a huge difference.

For what it's worth, I'd recommend driving outside the rush hours, for two reasons: one, it takes much longer during peak hours, and two, if you drive in to the outskirts and take public transport from there on, the cost of a day pass is far, far cheaper if you travel after 9:30 am.

But, unless you have a specific reason to take the car, you'd do much better to take a train: Henley is on a branch line off the main line into London Paddington, which is in central London and on the tube network.

If you do have a particular reason to drive in, then add some more information to your question, namely exactly where in the city you want to go. Without that, you won't get much help on best areas to park and routes to take.

Remember that if you're driving in during the Congestion Charging time you'll also have to pay the charge.

A general rule of London parking is just to use the NCP car parks (of which there are many) and grin and bear it. I think it's around £15 for 2 hours in the central ones.

London is a very big place. Where you should park depends on where you want to go. If you park at a tube station on the outskirts of London it would cost you about £2 or £2.50 for the day and you'd be able to go everywhere on the tube.

It is expensive but you should be able to find more economical places too

Depends where in London you are heading for...its a very big city. But wherever you are going, its pretty expensive.

If you are going into the centre on a weekday, remember you will have to pay the congestion charge first, or you'll get a big fine..

Don't do it. Go by train.

For heavens sake trains run at least every hour and take one hour.
Why drive if you have no idea of what you are doing?

Cost you £8 just to poke your bonnet into it.
It's empty during wartime though, in fact they collect you to look after it.
Don't come at all if you can help it.
