Well I don't know if this was done before 1990 but it is one of my all time favourite it is called A Mum for Christmas, it has Olivia Newton John in it and it is really great. Here in Oz they use to put it on TV every Christmas but now they put on all the more current movies. It is a must see for all those who love a good Xmas story.
My other favourites are The Santa Clause movies, The Muppet's Xmas Carol, Elf, Santa Who?, I'll be Home for Christmas, Jingle all the way.

I reckon the best and funniest Christmas movie for the whole family is Elf with Will Ferrell.
Surviving Christmas with Ben Affleck was good too.
I'll be home for Christmas - Jonathon Taylor Thomas.
You can't go past a Chevy Chase movie or Trains, Planes and Automobiles for good old memories though!
