Which one is 'overall better' depends on what you're looking for an 'overall experince'.

From a technichal standpoint, the 360 is clearly a superior machine. One of the other responses said something about the 360 having more good quality games, but I find that while the 360 does certianly have more games and probably will continue to, most of them just aren't that great. The great bulk of their games are generaly just knock-offs of eahother with only a few standing head and shoulders above the rest. Elder Scrolls and Halo, for example.

The Wii has had a strong start with somewhere along the lines of 36 titles available from the time of release, not including the classic 'virtual console' titles and given how well they're doing and will do over the holidays. I think you can expect stronger developer support than was the case with the GameCube, which had a slow start and had to drop their prices within the first few months. More Wii's will be in more homes, so logicaly more developers will be working to provide titles.

In the end, what it really comes down to is you. If what you really wanted was a PS3 and simply couldn't afford or find one, you should probably get the 360. It's a pretty standard experince, so if you're happy with what was happening with the XBox and the PS2, the 360 will continue that legacy with graphics that aren't as good and a less technichal superiority in general, but proven multiplayer support and a very similar game line up to the PS3. It's the poorman's PS3.

If you like the idea of something really different and don't mind the graphical trade off, the Wii's a great option. The games are already there and will be there in the future. Don't mistake the poor showing of the GameCube for being any indication of the future of the Wii. Nintendo's ideas have always been in a direction that isn't in-step with the rest of the industry. For me, that's a good thing but there are a lot of people that don't feel the same.

The question you should ask yourself is, which are you?

The 360 is better overall. Has more games, will continue to have better games. Also it is easier to find. Not trying to put down the Wii as a general thing. It is really almost what you want it for. If you want lots of games and good variety of them I wouldn't put alot of faith in Nintendo as they haven't had much in the recent past.
