What is concidered prestigious in America (concerning housing and living conditions)?

Where is it prestigious to live - in suburbs, near the city center or where (here may be some names of cities/districts/streets)? How many rooms should a prestigious house contain? And what houses are prestigious - mansions, bungalows, condominiums, apartments...? All in all what types of houses do you have in the USA?

I live in a modest two family home in America. It is by no means "prestigious"

Prestige depends on many factors in the States. From size to desireable neighbourhoods to technologically advanced. It all depends on what you as the individual value in a home.

My dream home has 5 bedrooms maximum; a kitchen that has all the latest gadgets and space to accomodate family and friends and a pool....and that's just for starters. The beauty of America is that this is all attainable for just about anybody.

Many people believe huge homes with at least 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, marble flooring and counter tops, 4 car garages on large lots of land are what is prestigious.

In all actuality most people living in such homes are soooooooooooo far in debt they will never see a day they don't have payments. These people have no clue to what it is like to have MONEY rather than STUFF.

Prestigious looking people are generally also the unhappiest due to the fact that they must work work work in order to pay for all the stuff they have on payments.

It is truly refreshing to wake every morning and know that I do not have debt like that. I may have that 6 car garage but it is all paid for and so is everything within it. Is this prestigious? I don't think so.. I am just a average joe living life and loving every minute of NOT in debt.
