The Wii is deffinetly more than just a novelty. The transition from classical controlers to the Wii system is really not the quantum leap of constant motion every one seems to think it is. Infact, if done properly it can actually be a lazier form of gaming.
I played Zelda for a few hours last night with both my hands hanging limp at my sides, only lifting the Wii-mote occasionaly when precision aiming was required. Otherwise it's just small shakes and wrist flicks. It actually felt more natural than anything I'd done yet and I'm not even fully used to it.
Anyone who is predicting the Wii to be another industry misstep and about to suffer the same fate of the GameCube is seriously misreading the market. The price and availability of the Wii will all but gaurntee that all of the three million systems that hit the shelves before Christmas will find homes. That's not to say Sony is playing it wrong, I think they had a couple more difficulties than they expected, but are playing with a winning strategy. But Nintendo is doing what NINTENDO should do. That's important, if Nintendo were to try to approch the market as if it was Sony, they'd get their butts handed to them.
They're making the better choice not to compete directly with Sony, but instead, offer a product you should have in addition to the PS3 that will have fun for everyone in the family and, by the way, it's less than half the price and you can buy one now about ten times as easily.
That's a solid decision and Nintendo may well kick Microsoft out of the number two spot in the industry in the comming few years as a result.
I understand that a lot of you prefer one system or another. I'd like to have a PS3 myself, but I like the Wii too. But honestly, when you take all the hype and personal bias out of the argument, what I've said may not turn out to be 100% correct but a pretty good possibility and a much better answer than saying 'Xyz Company sucks'.

The Wii is supposed to be an excellent gaming platform. It runs faster than the PS2, but doesn't have the additional features people are used to...such as the ability to play DVD's and CD's. The controller is something unique to the Wii...for now.
In comparison to the Xbox 360 and the PS3....it doesn't match up at all.

yea even Nintendo said that they are more movement based, not based on the fun factor of the games or game play. so it will be just like the DS
