No. It's an added expense that most of us don't need ($50+ per month?!). Giving too many toys/gadgets at an early age is gonna leave him spoiled. Finally, he should have time to mature and learn proper manners before receiving a gift that will naturally induce rude behavior (talking loudly in restaurants, answering calls in a theater during a performance, interrupting a dinner conversation to take a casual call).
Just my opinion, no offense intended. I didn't buy my first cell phone until after I got a job.
If you do feel compelled to get him a phone, I'd recommend getting a prepaid plan to teach him to manage his usage. T-Mobile offers the Sidekick on their prepaid plan.

If he likes the Nokia Ngage, try that as it is a game phone - there are a couple similar to it on Nokia.com. I think the sidekick might be a bit too advance. Check the picture here for the Ngage.
If he was older I would have said yes.
It has much more open access to the net, that's is what would make me hesitate to buy it. Others are limited in access. Just my opinion.

I would say yes, just because it is a very good phone, and it is very popular. This is assuming, however, that he likes to send a lot of text messages. Otherwise the Sidekick's keyboard is useless.

i understand there's a extensive debate approximately childrens having a cellular telephone yet as a mom i can understand why you're able to elect your infants to have one. I wouldnt purchase him a brannew telephone - get a affordable one with prepaid minutes and set his cut back each month. If he runs out of minutes make him wait till the subsequent month to get extra. In CA it extremely is state regulation that scholars are allowed to have cellular telephones at college however the colleges ascertain if the scholars could desire to maintain the telephone off and hidden from view. If he needs the telephone good now: tell him Santa doesnt grant early and bypass away it at that. Im specific he doesnt have self belief in santa at 13 yet i think of thats a smart factor to assert to a newborn who needs presents early :)

Totally depends on the child. If he is responsible and gets good grades then yes. If not, he may lose it or misuse it.
