I've checked the spec on your motherboard and it has a socket 939 processor. You have a relatively high spec piece of kit and I am surprised you do not have a fan controller panel.

Personally I would ditch your current CPU cooler and install something better. I have provided a link to a suitable good quality cooler with a 3.5" fan controller panel. It's on special offer this week. If you're not confident about installing the cooler, take your PC to your local computer dealer and get them to do it for you.

Heat can greatly reduce the effectiveness and operating ability of your CPU, and therefore your PC as a whole, which you don't want if you are a serious gamer. Over time CPUs constantly running hot will have their live reduced significantly. For the sake of £20.00+ you can save yourself a lot of grief and improve your PCs performance dramatically.

I'm a Mac person but I have a PC that I believe is suffering from the same problem. Each fan has a rating (cfm) of how much air they can push out in a certain amount of time. I suppose if you hook up a separate fan or fans from a 4-prong power connector that you can get more heat away from the CPU, than if you would plugging the fan and it's smaller connector onto the motherboard connector that is labeled for the fan to attach to, but it's all about the fan rating.

There are a lot of computer customizing sites out there and there are a lot of topics that cover computer cooling, so feel free to do a search and see what's out there. Most forums allow you to research and check out Q and A without having to sign up using a screenname and password.

It could also be as simple as replacing the older fan with a newer one. Anything mechanical does wear down over time.

CPU's have a thermal LIMIT not a temp comtrol so it operates normal always as long as temp limit is not reached. If reached it WILL shut down not slow down keep in mind though that dirty fans ETC. do draw more power and that GPU's can slow at high heat

Ehm..
I recommend to clean up the register in order to improve your pc performances and get rid of malwares. A good program you can use is CCleaner http://bit.ly/UrApkI
Try it out

get a bigger and faster fan. Could be the fan is starting to build up too much dust and thats why is slowing down, or it could just be dying, or the other possibility is that the motherboard isn't giving it enough "juice".
