The first people that answered are correct. Apple Macintosh computers are called Macs in comparison. They too are a personal computer. When you look up software to purchase, some vendors may call software for windows "Win" while others call it "PC", even though Windows runs on Personal Computers. They're so popular that they just abbreviate it as PC, while the other type of software is labeled "Mac Compatible".
To confuse you even more, the newer Macintosh computers can now run the Windows operating system separately.

the reason PC's are called that is it is short for Personal Computer

before computers were pc(personal computers),
they were the size of a large room and was hardly considered personal as they were so expensive and expandsive.
so when they got a computer to the size of a large box,
and the price down to a few thousand dollars as opposed to being a few hundreds of thousands of dollars, then it was considered as some thing that could be personal.

computer is actually not in one size, but more than that. there are supercomputer, microcomputer, desktop, laptop and pda (this one i am not sure because i lost my text book contains history of computer). the one that we call PC is desktop and while desktop is usually used personally, so it is called PC (short form for personal computer). more over, it is easier to call PC than computer.
