Can someone explain Patrick's (Elijah Wood) Role in Eternal Sunshine? Why does he go up to Joel's window before the memory erase?? Was he going out with Clementine before she met Joel for the first time??

Elijah Woods character was trying to date Clementine after she erased Joel but, by useing the same tactics that Joel used he was trigering latent memories in Clementine. I think the reason Elijah walks up to Joel's car window intimadate Joel to stay away from Clementine.

He was one of the people that worked on her erase. He fell for her then and used memories of her with Joel to make her feel like she was in love with him. He figured, this is how Clementine feel for Joel, so she should fall for me the same way since she doesn't remember him now. What he failed to realize is that it wasn't only the actions but the personality as well.
