Take heart you can over come this fear , I did. When I first moved to the city of Toronto I was teriffied of driving on the highways. This is what I did. Wait until it is not rush hour and the highways are not so busy. YOu need to be alone any way to do this. Do it in short stunts. at a quiet time get out on the highway and just go one exit, or a short distance . Then exit and get off the highway and breath again lol. extent the lenght of time you are on the highway a bit at a time. then after you have done this a few times , set a short destination away to drive to. Give your selft more than double the time it takes to get there and set out. If you get to afraid you can always pull off the highway onto the shoulder if need be or at a exit go have a coffee and get back at it again. Believe me it won't be long until you are laughing at your fear and have beat it . Good luck and don't hurry because some idiot blows there horn just maintaine the law and speed limit and you will be fine. Good luck

Highway driving is the easiest thing you can do. Highways when constructed are usually made to be as straight and flat as the terrain allows. This means you may be driving faster, but it's just fast in a straight line. This is much easier than navigating twists on rocky dirt roads, or multiple lanes and lights and one way streets in town. If you're driving on a multilane highway, pick the slower lane on the right and drive at a set speed. Let other people to all the passing. Good luck.

Are you a new driver/?Choose smaller, less busy highways, and drive at less busy times of day. Get plenty of practice on small roads before trying a 6 or 12 lane super highway. Driving should not necessarily be "fun." You need to feel confident and safe...and you can build confidence a little at a time with experience.

Practice on side streets. Look both ways. Never trust that someone will stop at a stop sign. I still look both ways before proceeding. Then go to the highway and drive a short distance when the traffic is low. Do this every day. Your fear will go diminish with practice. You will be an excellent driver!

I have been driving for over twenty years now and I still have a great fear of driving in the highways. The thought of all the road all around me and weighing down on me is frighting.
So instead of driving in them I drive On them.
And I am alone for a lot of the time also

Practice driving in highways at the required speed limit. Till you get used to driving. Drive at different highways too, especially out in the country side. Good enough, yes?

Drive out on the highway more when there are less cars (between 8 and 11 pm for instance).

well. if driving on roads are okay for you than i think highways are quiet the same. what is your fear of driving in highways actually? is it the fast cars . well sooner or later you'll need to get to some place else using the highways. so , what i suggest you to do is just concentrate on your road. well, good luck on overcoming your fears.

Look in the phone book for driving schools - give one a call and tell them your situation and say you want to hire someone to come with you and give you pointers for your first time on the highway.
