Okay i watched a show on national geographic that says sound carries greater through water than in air. I'm about 5 months pregnant, and my husband put a "system" in my car..do you think that the ridiculously loud bass could hurt our unborn childs hearing? I'm really worried about this....

I dont know if it would hurt his hearing but it may scare him and stress him out just dont turn it as loud as you usually would and he may actually start to like the music. I watched that same show by the way in the womb?

I don't think that it would be wise to play your 'system' really loud at anytime while driving due to the safety of that. But at five weeks the baby can hear loud noises, things such as the blow dryer, vacuum cleaner, that annoying mother in-law (ha ha ha just playing) and just loud noises so I would have to say yes that the baby can hear the music it may be muffled but s/he will be able to detect a loud noise. I know this because I am 24 weeks pregnant and last week my hubby was building a deck and asked me to stand in front of him to block the sun. He started hammering near my belly and our son just went absolutely crazy.

I am not sure it can hurt the baby. It will definitely startle and even make the baby jump and get irritated. when i was preggo with my son my husband would sometimes try to put his music very loud and right as he turned it up my baby would kick like crazy until it stopped. I would just tell him to keep the music down while u are in the car for the babys sake and because it bothers you also. Good luck!

uh, yeah it can. They've done studies and found that loud noises cause the baby's blood pressure to rise, and repeated exposure can cause low birth weight.

Along with all that, the repeated exposure can lead to hearing trouble with the baby.

Its not good for the little guy at all. You can google it can study it out yourself.

You wouldnt stick his car seat in the car and crank the bass if he were with you now would you? Its no different just because he's in your body.

Why are you listening to ridiculously loud bass anyway? Ghetto? No, of course it's not going to hurt your child's hearing. What a silly question!!

The baby can hear. Stop the noise. Try with calm music at a normal volume. much better if you sing, that way the baby will hear your voice in a beautiful way...

I don't think it will hurt the babies hearing, but it will get them jamming. I would ask him to turn it down just a bit when you're in the car.
