I recently switched to using a mac, and I love it. I immediately noticed that I was more productive. I can spend 3 hours on my newer PC P2 2Ghz, then spend 3 hours on my mac g3 333, and somehow on my older mac I have written 50+ pages or completed a research project in the same time I may have finished 10 pages on the PC.
With a mac everything really does "just work" I haven't had to spend hours looking for drivers, downloading many many programs to find one that works well, I haven't had as much reason to worry about viruses, all my work is encrypted and saved for only me, even though there are several others who use the mac regularly they can't access my work.
On my Mac I can use graphically attractive font's like "Adobe Garamond" which was used in the printing of harry-pottter books.
and I don't have to spend any extra money for a font-pack.
With the i-life suite from apple, I can handle itunes music, make my own music, handle photos, edit home-videos. And with the literally hundreds of small things that help you at every moment when using the mac, like spell-check inside of almost every editor, integrated search functionality with spotlight and limitless other little things.
So for me the new i-macs are perfect offering every functionality I could possibly need, and with the support for windows integrated I don't need 2 machines anymore.
It's also amazing to me that Microsoft couldn't create anything new with windows vista. Vista is a lesser copy of Mac OS X, and I can imagine that after vista is released and apple releases jaguar in a month or 2 apple will show they have innovated, they didn't have to copy anyone.

I agree that the Macs seem reliable, and the hardware design is TOP NOTCH. I **love** the look and feel of the products. Trouble is there just isn't that much software available for them. You **KNOW** they make it for the PC, whatever it is. There's a question of whether or not they make it in a Mac version. Furthermore, there's probably TEN firms producing TEN versions of it on the PC, and you can have your choice. Chances are that **EVERY** peripheral (printer, controller, external burner) you ever find ANYWHERE (walmart or wherever) will ALWAYS work with the PC, and include software for it. Questionable on the Mac. OK, so there in a nutshell is the advantage to the PC. That's it. The Mac users are correct in all their criticisms of Windows and the PCs, but that's a pretty big advantage, and it's why I stick with PC. Also, PCs are cheaper, and I CAN'T STAND WEB BROWSING ON MACS with no taskbar. The pop-down "Window" heading is a pain in the ***. I like the taskbar on Windows. I don't know why Mac won't copy this (probably ashamed to) because if the did, it would be easier for me to switch. They're finally copying the 2-button mouse; I've thought they were RETARDS to not do this years and years ago. I can't imagine not having the right-click.

Mac is coming around.....by turning into PCs slowly. They went from NuBus to PCI. They went from SCSI to IDE. They went from 1 button mouse to 2. They went from PowerPC to Intel. Why don't they just put the damn taskbar on there while they're at it!!!!

As far as the guys who say to custom-build a PC - I do not recommend it. I have done this several times over the years, and went smoothly about 2/3 of the time and was a complete ***** 1/3 of the time. You get ALMOST NO WARRANTY, then you get NO SUPPORT, and if you have a bad component it's sometimes hard to tell what is is.....is it bad RAM? Is it a bad motherboard? Is it a defective CPU??? Many times the only way to tell is the dumb method of take-off/put-on. And if it's a high-end gaming rig you're going for, you are spending SO much money total that it's foolhardy to not have a warranty on the whole thing. The only kind of PC that I would build myself would be the lowest-end, with the fewest components - like a web-surfing office machine with onboard video.....less to break, less of an investment into something with no warranty. But then again, I hate the fact that you either have to BUY Windows or pirate it (getting harder) when you custom build, and get no support in either case. By the time you do this, there's no savings and only hassle and risk in custom-building.

My best computer in the world is one that I had built for all my needs. So if you want the best decide what you want it to do , burn DVDs / Cd's play games listen to music surf the net. Go from there. If you play video games you what the best video card. You need a big hard drive and lots of ram. You want to make sure you have enough room to store everything and the ram to make sure it still runs fast with other programs opened. I have 2 80 gig hard drives in mine and 1 gig ram because I am a music and movie nut. I use one hard drive for storing all my programs music and movies and the other for surfing the the net. i will never run out of space because I save most of my music on DVDs in MP3 format. So a virus free computer that does everything you want it to do is the best computer!
